Full Text
The RULE of DRINKING, from the Greek of Eubulus.
THREE Pints of Wine, the Grave and Wise
May fit to prick, and other rise:
The first is Health, and Nature's Claim,
The next but kindles Friendship's Flame;
For Bed the Prudent change the Board
When they have jovially drain'd the third.
But they who o'er two Bottles stay
Grow wanton when they go away;
Five Pints will fill the Room with Noise
Of am'rous Song and roaring Boys;
But if three Bottles come, tho' Wine
Transforms Men into Beasts and Swine.
