Full Text

We are informed, that an eminent divine in this city has lately received in a letter from a clergyman of great veracity in Virginia, the following particulars relating to state of religion in that country. "It would be unpardonable in me to let pass, by the state of religion in this country to a gentleman of your known attachment to its interests. I wish I could give you some account that would be agreeable: but alas! we are torn by factions and divisions. Virginia is no more the seat of peace and concord but of madness and enthusiasm. The Methodists from the North come down upon us like a torrent; and I can see no method so effectual of preventing their growth, as dispersing books in favour of the Church among our people which proposal I wish the Society (for promoting Christian knowledge) would take into their serious consideration, especially as the indifferent circumstances of the clergy of this country in general will not enable them to purchase."
