Full Text

Boston, March 22. We have the following melancholy Account from Northampton, That on the 13th Inst. being Lord's Day, in the Time of the Forenoon Exercise, just after the Rev. Mr. Edwards had begun his Sermon, the whole Front Gallery of the Meeting-House, where the People were assembled, suddenly fell down, without the least Cracking or Warning given before hand. The Number of Persons in the Gallery, and those who sat under it, are not exactly known; but 'tis supposed that several Scores were grievously wounded and bruised: Seven of whom were thought to be dangerous; but that none were immediately kill'd, must be look'd upon as a wonderful Preservation: At which Time very affecting Shrieks and Cries were heard both among the Preserved and Wounded. The said Meeting-House is a very ancient Building, and the Inhabitants have been building a new House for the Publick Worship of God within a few Feet of it, which we suppose is almost compleated.
