MAINE.—The Legislature of Maine convened last week in special session to consider a proposition made by the Gen. Government relative to the Boundary question, which was communicated to them by Gov. Fairfield in a Message. A large Committee of both Houses were appointed to consider the proposition, and, in accordance with it, have reported resolutions to appoint four Commissioners with full powers to make any compromise respecting the Boundary that they may think advisable. Lord Ashburton, the British Envoy, made the offer to settle the question immediately by compromise, instead of waiting for the uncertain issue of a decision by arbitration.
