Library workers win demand for action on increased funds

Monday was a "red-letter day" for employees of the Chicago Public Library, according to officials of Local 2 of the CIO United Public Workers, as the library board took action on union proposals to increase library funds.

The board's chief decision was a unanimous one to seek an increase in the "pegged levy" income for the library from $2,350,000 to $3,500,000 annually.

It took the form of the adoption of the report of the board's legislative committee, headed by Anthony Mentone. Other members are Joseph D. Bibb and William Lee, president of the Chicago Federation of Labor.

IN ADDITION to this action, long urged by the library chapter of the union, the board announced the appointment of about 250 senior assistants and clerks.
