Full Text

BASTIA, Nov. 13. A few days ago we had advice that Paoli had given orders to three fourths of his troops to provide themselves with provisions for six days march.

The 3d of this month a detachment of 200 of our men marched to Chiesa Nera, in the district of Nebbio, and endeavoured to post themselves in the convent of St. Peter, after they had turned out the Monks; but the detachment had no sooner taken possession than the Corsican Captain Pelona arrived with superior forces, and a battle ensued, to the disadvantage of our people, part of whom were killed, six officers taken prisoners, and the rest obliged to retire with precipitation. We this moment hear that the day before yesterday the Corsican troops had approached very near Olmeta, and what gives room to believe that there has been an action is that several of our soldiers have been brought wounded to this city.
