Stuck Knife in Air Hose.

Frank Hale, white, is now locked in the Clifton Forge jail, awaiting trial upon two serious charges. He is charged with sticking the blade of a pocket knife into the air tube of air brakes on a freight train April 27th and with firing two shots from a revolver, which he pulled from his pocket, at Brakeman W. J. Bunch, when the brakeman demanded what he meant by stopping the train in any such fashion.

On the 27th of April, according to a statement of C. & O. Railway Detective A. M. Richardson, Hale was riding an east-bound freight train, and when the train reached Lick Run, he jabbed the blade of his pocket knife into the air tube, in order to stop the train so that he could get off and see a woman, to whom he was paying attention. Naturally the freight was brought to a quick standstill, and when the brakeman attempted to make Hale account for it, Hale fired at him and escaped.
