Wedding of William Ruggles and Miss Amy McCullen Delayed -
Bride Loses Fifty Dollar Bill
"Waiting at the Church," came near being the fate of William Ruggles, of Big Island who was married Sunday afternoon to Miss Amy McCullen, of this city.
Miss McCullen started from the home of her father, James McCullen, of Nye street, about 11 o'clock Sunday morning intending to drive to Big Island, where she was to be married. While driving out Kenton avenue, her horse became frightened and ran away. The animal turned into the ditch near the intersection of the extension of Kenton avenue and the Garden City Pike, throwing the young woman out of the rig. The rig was almost completely demolished.
Miss McCullen was picked up by persons living in the vicinity and carried into a nearby residence. Her face was cut up in several places and she was more or less bruised. While she was recovering from the effects of the runaway, her prospective husband was waiting at the Big Island church for his bride. He was finally reached by telephone and came after the young woman.
When the smash up occurred, Miss McCullen had a pocket book containing a fifty dollar bill in the buggy. In the excitement, she forgot the money and when she recovered, the pocket book and money were gone. Several boys who were in the vicinity at the time, were suspected of having taken the money. The police put the boys through a sweating and they are confident that none of them secured the money.
A number of persons were about the rig soon after the runaway occurred, and it is doubtful if the young woman will ever regain the money.
