The following interesting extract of a letter was received by a gentleman in this place from his correspondent in Lisbon, dated the 31st of October, and politely handed us—

"Yesterday a courier arrived from France, bringing the disagreeable intelligence, that our Ambassador had left Paris the middle of this month. The Count da Ega, our Ambassador to Spain has also left Madrid. Twenty-five thousand men are on their march against this country, the advance guard of which was expected to arrive at Burgos yesterday. On the 10th of November the Spanish and French armies are to march from Salamanca, the place of rendezvous. General Junot, (late minister at Portugal) is appointed general in chief; Laborde and Clement, junior, are generals of division. The requisition of soldiers and seamen is exercised with utmost strictness and energy. The Provinces are without troops; most of which are drawn towards the capital. The lieutenant generals Gomes, Freire, Marquis D'Alorna and Francis de Cumba, are appointed the generals to command the troops of Portugal. Anthony de Araujo Azevedo (minister for foreign affairs) left this place yesterday for Madrid to negotiate with general Junot.

"The packet from Falmouth arrived this day, and left the mail, as they must here after do, without the Bar. Twelve sail of the line and five frigates British, are off the Bar at this moment, with what intention is not known, perhaps Lisbon is to share the fate of Copenhagen,
Our ships of war are still preparing. An Embargo has been laid on all the Brazil ships, to carry troops and warlike stores in case the Prince Regent determines to go to Brazil. All the plate belonging to the churches and convents have been inventoried, and is to be deposited in the royal treasury, that it may be shipped at the approach of the French army.".....Ib.
