Quite a large audience of members of the bar as well as leading citizens of Ottawa gathered at the Supreme Court House on Wednesday morning, to witness the presentation of the resolutions recently adopted by the bar to the Court, and to hear the remarks to be made on the occasion.
The resolutions were presented by Ex-Chief Justice Caton, in a short and feeling speech in which he spoke of the late President as a personal and intimate friend, a member of the bar of this court. of his ability as a lawyer, and of his high tone and singular integrity as such, and of his genial social qualities nobleness of heart;&c.
Hon. Sidney Breese responded on behalf of the court. His speech was a gem in its way, overflowing with warm, earnest; natural feeling. yet conceived in such faultless exquisite language, as to remind one of Shenstone or Irving. We shall give both speeches with the resolutions, &c., on our outer pages next week.
A tribute like this, from the life-long acquaintances, companions, and professional associates and brothers of the late President. must have a value far above ordinary expressions of the kind, to the intimate friends and family of the deceased.
