Fourth Annual Tournament
The Key West Golf Course will be the scene of the fourth annual Jaycee City Championship and Handicap Tournament this coming Saturday and Sunday.
It is expected that this year the largest field that has ever entered a tournament will participate. Last year there were 72 players which almost filled the course and this year even more are expected. The deadline for entrance is Thursday at 6 p.m.
The Handicap Tournament is divided into five fields: Zero thru five handicap, six thru ten, eleven thru fifteen, sixteen thru twenty, twenty one thru twenty five. There will be three prizes in each division: low net, second low net, and low gross.
Of course the two low gross will be City Champion and Runner up.
The event is a 36-hole affair, 18 holes on Saturday and 18 holes on Sunday or 36 holes on Sunday.
The defending champion Humbert Mira will run into stiff competition from former city champion James Mira, former Club Champion Harry Knight, George Valdez, Greenskeeper Ike Parks, Andy Parks, Comdr. Al. Barthes, SPO Dave Sweeney, Norman Artman, Dr. Jack Hayes and Col Bob Spottswood.
The course is in fine shape with the greens being in the finest possible condition and you can rest assured that the cups will be in hardest possible places.
The entry fee is $2.00 with all money being put back into prizes. The Jaycees contribute the Championship and Runner-up Cups.
The public is cordially invited to witness this Tournament beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday and at 8 a.m on Sunday.
The Key West Golf Club's Tournament Committee with Chairman Fred Mathews is running the affair for the Jaycees with help from Club Pro Joe Lopez.
