Full Text

The last Letters from Corsica confirm, that Lord Theodore had indeed abandoned his Posts about Bastia and retired up into the Mountains; but his Retreat was only a Feint to surprize the Genoese, for returning immediately with more Forces, he defeated the Genoese Troops, that were posted in the open Country, and carried off ev'ry thing he cou'd meet with in the Neighbourhood of the Town ; so that the Place is reduc'd to a greater Extremity than ever.

From the same Place they write, That the Genoese having sent out a Proclamation for apprehending Baron Neuhoff, wherein they charge him with High Treason, and represent him as a Cheat, Vagabond, and Quack-Doctor; the Corsicans return'd it in these Words, Long Live King Theodore I. and when it was first shew'd to him, he said with a Smile, Since the Genoese have endeavour'd to make me pass for a Mountebank, I hope Soon to demonstrate what Conjurers they are, and to set up my Stage in the Middle of the City of Bastia.
