FILIAL AFFECTION. We notice in the Troy Whig the death of Miss Angelina Gilbert, of New Haven. Her example ought not to be overlooked, nor ought she to pass unnoticed to the grave. She was of high parentage. Her father was once one of the leading lawyers of this state, and of independent fortune. By endorsing for friends he became a bankrupt. His physical and mental energies were paralyzed by the blow. To use the touching words of Mrs. Hemans, "He never smiled again."

His accomplished daughter bowed meekly to misfortune, and to support her broken-hearted father, became a teacher of music in Mrs. Willard's Seminary at Troy. Through her devotion, the sun of that father's life set unclouded. In the days of old Rome, a monument would have been raised to the memory of such a woman. In these days of utilitarianism, we suppose she will be forgotten before the turf is green over her grave.—[N. Y. Era.
