The editors of the Times and Gazette anticipate fine displays of Agricultural products at their respective Fairs to be held during the ensuing week. Well, we have no Shows or Society down this way, but should the good folks of Charles and Prince George's have any doubts as to our agricultural prosperity in consequence, just let them send down a committee, and we'll readily satisfy them that the "big potatoes" can be grown in a quiet way.—St. Mary's Beacon.
The farmers of St. Mary's may be able to raise "big potatoes" "in a quiet way;" but our word for it, if they don't bustle about and get up an Agricultural Society, they will soon find "big potatoes" but little evidence of prosperity. The car of improvement is rushing forward. It is propelled by the power of steam, and moves with the velocity of lightning. So, friend Beacon, if you don't intend to "couple on," stand aside, and you'll certainly be behind the Times.
