The Iron Workers' Picnic.-There was an immense crowd of people in attendance at the picnic given by the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers, on the Fair Grounds, Saturday afternoon. An attractive programme had been prepared for the occasion by the committee having the matter in charge, and there was considerable sport during the afternoon. The horse race was perhaps the most prominent feature of the occasion. Wm. Handlan, jr.'s "Doctor," and William Bailey's "George" were entered for the race. The first heat was won by "Doctor" in 2:50, the second by "George" in 2:50. "Doctor" breaking badly; the third heat was decided off by the judges on account of both horses breaking and running. Bailey would not run his horse again, and the race and prize (a blanket and hood) were given to Handlan.

There were various other amusements, such as walking matches, foot races, etc. The foot race was for a purse of $25, and was contested for by Charles Snyder and Wm. Helfer, the former being the winner.

The wheelbarrow race did not come off the course being crowded so that the contestants were unable to make a start. The picnic was no doubt a financial as well as a social success.
