Extract of a letter to a gentleman in Boston, dated Baltimore, Feb. 28:
I have only time to inform you, that this day, a number of Express arrived from Washington, informing that Congress have passed a Law to raise the Embargo on the 15th March, with a Non Intercourse. It is now before the Senate, and no doubt but they will pass it immediately.
Another letter same date, observes:
"That by an express from Washington, it is reported that Giles's Bill has passed the House, 80 voting for it. There are some amendments, and it has been returned to the Senate."
Extract of a letter to a merchant in New York, dated Washington, Feb. 27, 1809.
"The bill to repeal the Embargo, and enforce the Non Intercourse, has passed the lower House, 81 to 40. Most of the Federalists voted against it, and there is very little doubt of its passing the Senate."
Extract of a letter from a merchant in Baltimore, dated Feb. 28, to his correspondent in New York.
"An express from Washington brings the pleasing intelligence of the House of Representatives of the U. States having passed a vote to raise the Embargo 15th March. It is generally believed here the Senate will concur, as well as the President.
P. S. It is said the Senate passed the bill late last night."
