By reference to another column, it will be seen, that in the distribution of the surplus revenue of the Literary Fund, Jefferson County is entitled to the sum of $336 81, to be applied either to academies or primary schools, as the Commissioners may determine.

This addition, though small, will not be without its beneficial influence. Whatever may have been the effect elsewhere, we can state with confidence that much good has been done in this county. Schools have been kept up, which must otherwise have failed for want of support, and the field of knowledge has been opened to many, who, but for this, would have been left in a state of total ignorance and impenetrable darkness.
