BRIGHT MAY NOT BE TRIED HERE

Sheriff Jarrett has just received word from Hilo that Charles Bright, alias John Baker, has a record of five convictions for gross cheat. The message came in response to a wireless message sent by Sheriff Pua of Hawaii, who is in the city at present, to Deputy Sheriff Fetter of Hilo, and the answer was handed to Sheriff Jarrett last evening.

The Sheriff does not exactly know how to interpret the message, whether he has been convicted five times and served sentences or whether the five convictions are hanging over him. If the latter is the case, then Sheriff Pua will be allowed to take him back to Hilo, should he, however, not be wanted in his own town, he will come up for trial before Judge Andrade in the Police Court here.
