Emory Will Run For State Senate This November

GAINESVILLE, Jan. 4 (P)—Rep. J. Emory (Red) Cross today announced his candidacy for the Florida Senate from the 32nd Senatorial District, or Alachua County.

Cross is the first announced candidate for the seat now held by Sen. President W. A. Shands who last week said he would not seek re-election.

A Gainesville attorney, Cross has been a member of the state House for three terms.

The 44-year-old University of Florida graduate designated William H. Chandler, also a Gainesville attorney, as his campaign treasurer.

"If elected, I shall endeavor to serve with the same dignity and with the same benefit to Alachua County and the state as Sen. Shands has in the past," Cross said.

Cross served as county prosecuting attorney for four years before his election to the House.
