Meeting At Pittsburgh, Church Council Backs Up Civil Rights Program

The National Fraternal Council of Churches, USA, Inc. including leaders of the various denominations, made of Negro Christians, met at the Bethel AME Church, Pittsburgh, Pa, on Jan 24 and 25. Rev. A. A. Hughey was the host pastor.

The church leaders issued a statement re-emphasizing the church's position on Civil Rights, War and World-wide Evangelism.

The Commissions of the Fraternal Council were activated and plans were set in motion to adequately staff the Washington Bureau and secure the services of an expert in the field of public relations to assist with the promotion of the objectives of the Council.

The theme of the meeting was "The Time is Short" according to Rev. George W. Lucas, Dayton, Executive Secretary.

Charles Hill, President of Wilberforce University, delivered the main address for the membership rally, Tuesday, Jan. 23.

During the meeting reports were made by Dr. W. H. Jernagin, Consultant of the Washington Bureau and President of the National S. S. & B. T. U. Congress of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. A special committee was to investigate discriminatory practices by the Kresge 5c & 10c Store in Washington, D.C.

Executive Secretary George W. Lucas, Dr. J. H. Peters, Treasurer and Dr. J. M. Bracy, Chairman of the Executive Committee also made significant reports.
