END OF WORLD WOES
SEEN BY DR. MAX MASON

CHICAGO.—A world that in time might be made rational, a world free of hunger, poverty and sickness, peopled by men who would begin to understand the workings of their own minds, was seen today by Dr. Max Mason, who resigned the presidency of the University of Chicago to become research director of the Rockefeller foundation.

"We may even colonize other planets some day," he said. "We know there are many things wrong with the world today. What makes men unhappy? Why should men go hungry? What is the trend of thought in the direction of improving the conditions that bring these things about?"

Such problems, he indicated, would be studied with the resources of the foundation, estimated at more than $600,000,000.

"I will have a staff of experts to go anywhere in the world to discover whatever facts are necessary. The sky is the limit when it comes to money. There are no strings attached to the direction of this foundation. There are no prejudices about anything. We have no propaganda to submit. We want the truth, that man may be more free."
