On Sunday the 31st ult. about two o'clock, the schooner Betsy, belonging to Beverly, Massachusetts, commanded by Capt. Benjamin Ellenwood, from Cape Francois, lying at Baltimore, was discovered to be on fire, which was occasioned by embers having been blown out of the caboose and which communicated to the sails and rigging. By this accident the Betsy lost her foresail, square sail, jibb, part of her mainsail, both cables, fore shrouds and running rigging, foremast, fore boom, and fore yard, and was otherwise much damaged ; but by the seasonable and vigorous assistance of the mariners from other contiguous vessels, the flames were extinguished.
