A new telephone system, which has been needed for a long time, was initiated on Friday, June 29, through the Gallup Area Office of the BIA. The system will cover Chinle, Crownpoint, Fort Defiance, Fort Wingate, Leupp, Kayenta, Keams Canyon, Shiprock, Tuba City and Window Rock, as well as the Gallup office.
With this system, direct dialing will be possible, even on long distance calls, which is expected to result in a considerable saving of both time and expense.
Mayme Aarni has the distinction of the first listing in the bright green book just released. Her number is Exchange 863-222.
