LECTURE ON HOME LIFE.

State Superintendent W. W. Stetson gave his lecture on "Home Life" in the Methodist church Tuesday evening before an interested audience.

He spoke first of the pride he always feels in being a native of the State of Maine. Not on account of her natural resources, scenery, etc., but on account of the men she has sent out into the world. In every walk of life, in all parts of the world, Maine men are to be found, and always at the front. Maine has sent out more men who have become members of Congress than there are now members of the National House.

The reason for this pre-eminence of her sons is due to the early training received in the home, the church, the school and the town meeting. All these had their influence in molding the characters of the sons and daughters of Maine.

But we cannot live in the past. Are we fitting our sons and daughters to fill our places as the age demands? We must look carefully to the training of the heart as well as the head. The social life should be guarded, and our sons and daughters trained in such a way that they will feel at home in society.

He then referred to the educating influence of pictures and the lessons to be drawn from a study of the old masters. We should also look carefully to the reading of the young, and see that it is guided in the right channels.

He closed with a general appeal to all interested in the rising generation to look well to the best welfare of the young—morally, socially, intellectually and physically.
