We received a letter last evening from Portland, signed "A Native of Maine," in which the author supposes he points to the writer of the article in the Eastern Argus, signed "A Rhode-Islander." As we are satisfied that "A Native of Maine" is not correct in his conjectures, we decline publishing the letter though we are satisfied of the correctness of his remarks, and feel grateful to him for the good he evidently intended.
We respectfully tender our thanks to those gentlemen, who on Thursday and Friday were busily employed in hawking about the Eastern Argus, and reading in barbers' shops and taverns, the article in it concerning us. If these gentlemen had exercised a little patience, we should have saved them much trouble, as we this day publish the article which so much delighted them, in our own columns. That all may be supplied, who take such a decided interest in the affair they shall be presented with ten or twelve copies, if they will apply at this office.
