Cherokee Troubles -Gen. Scott writes from Athens, Tennessee, Nov. 6: that he has been obliged to retain his forces some time longer in consequence of about 200 of the Cherokees having secreted themselves in the North Carolina Mountain near Oconaluftee. Lieut. Smith who had been sent on thither to secure some fugitives, on his return with them had two of his men murdered, and one severely wounded by the prisoners, himself escaping by the fleetness of his horse. Gen. Scott has sent Col. Foster with mounted men, to scour the mountains and capture the murderers, &c.
