Summer Journalism Course At Lincoln For Teachers

JEFFERSON CITY, MO.-- High school teachers serving as publications advisors and journalism course instructors may take a three-hour credit course at Lincoln University especially designed for them.

The course forms the Third Summer Journalism Institute at Lincoln. It will follow the workshop procedure and permit maximum participation by each student, according to Armistead S. Pride, head of the University department of journalism.

Four hours of instruction daily will be offered in the course from July 9 to 27. The daily instruction, Monday through Friday, is divided into a two-hour early morning session and another of two hours in the late afternoon.

Missouri residents pay only an incidental fee of $12.50. Non-residents of the state pay in addition a ten-dollar tuition fee.

Problems of starting high school newspapers and yearbooks, of financing them, and of supervising student participation will be analyzed in detail. Methods of printing school publications will be considered particularly from the cost angle.

Students enrolled in the course will have the full collection of the University's set of high school newspapers and yearbooks at their disposal as models for study and discussion during the Institute.

Motion pictures, displays, demonstrations, and field trips to publishing plants will supplement the classroom instruction.
