Southern Air Resumes S.J. Flights, Not V.I.
Southern Air Transport, which usually flies in the majority of fresh food to St Thomas and St. Croix is still unable to fly in here although Miami-San Juan flights have been resumed.
Governor Ralph Paiewonsky said yesterday that he had talked to Civil Aeronautics Board members while he was in Washington and had been told that the problem was a technical one.
Congress had passed a law requiring recertification of certain airlines, including Southern Air Transport. The regulation apparently has not been complied with, causing the grounding of the air cargo service.
Paiewonsky said that he had explained the seriousness of the situation and that he would call Washington today to check the status of the airline.
