The thing that Doris Kenyon didn't like robbed her of the thing she wanted and, finally, brought her happiness.
A Miss Kenyon's life has been paradoxical. A picture star of note, she fought against it. She had other ambitions. Now her cinematic career has, in a roundabout fashion, satisfied her life longing.
Doris is now at the Coliseum Theatre in Adolphe Menjou's latest starring comedy drama, Universal's "The Human Side." Hollywood sought her for the role just as it has all the dozens of roles she has played. She says that she is happier in it than in any picture she has ever made.
But acting is not the thing she started out to do.
As a girl in Syracuse, New York, she studied for the concert stage.
She had an audition before the late Victor Herbert who suggested that she try pictures - as they were silent. Crushed, she acted upon his suggestion and went to Hollywood. She was almost an overnight success. She appeared in many of the outstanding films.
"Valley of the Giants," "Ladies at Play," "The Blonde Saint." "Interference."
"Monsieur Beaucaire" and "Strictly Personal" are but a few.
