Playing Gen. Jackson. According to the Transcript, the Boston boys have a new play, which is thus described: A juvenile wag, of some consideration with his companions, conceives an idea that he would make a very good President or General. Accordingly he summons all the boys in the neighbourhood, to the number of one or two hundred, and lays his plans before them. They like the fun, and yield willing obedience to the people's President. A handcart is procured and drag ropes attached to it. The President combs and piles his hair until it stands erect, like quills upon the fretful porcupine. His mother's dredging box is put in requisition, and he becomes a grey headed and venerable old man. He mounts the cart—his little fellow citizens—good and loyal subjects—lay hold—and the procession proceeds—the President standing erect in his mock barouche, hat in hand, bowing right and left, front and rear, to the enthusiastic multitude. Here and there his progress is interrupted by a speech, to which he makes 'a neat and pertinent reply.' The game continues until the President is exhausted by fatigue, when he is conducted to the lodgings provided for him at the Gingerbread House, and the escort is dismissed. The President, before he retires, shows himself at the window—the crowd recognize his venerable form and greet him with reiterated shouts—he smiles complacently and goes to bed.
