GOES TO PEN.

Selma Doctor Is Taken to Ft. Madison.

Keosauqua, June 17. (Special)-- Dr. Levi Loar of Selma was taken by Sheriff R. P. Ramsey yesterday to Ft. Madison where he will serve a term of six months in state's prison. Dr. Loar was tried and convicted in district court here a little over one year ago on a charge of having performed a criminal operation on Miss Valley Alton of Hillsboro and was sentenced by Judge Sloan to six months' imprisonment at hard labor in the penitentiary at Ft. Madison and to pay a fine of $50. From the decision of Judge Sloan Dr. Loar appealed to the supreme court of Iowa, and in a recent decision the supreme court affirmed the decision of Judge Sloan, Dr. Loar then, through his attorney and friends, petitioned Gov. Cummins for a pardon which was refused, and hence he was taken yesterday by the sheriff to Ft. Madison to serve out his sentence. Dr. Loar is an old man about 70 years old. He served in the union army during the rebellion.
