In the House tomorrow Morrison intends to report from the Committee on Ways and Means on the tariff bill as agreed by a majority of the members. The Appropriation Committee expect to report the Indian appropriations bill. The measure for the retirement and recoinage of trade dollars has been made a special order for Tuesday, and the Committee on Pacific Railways has leave to call up from the calendar any bills which may then be perfected by the committee relating to the Thurman Sinking fund act, or the amounts due from the Pacific Railways for surveying and patenting of lands. The committee expect to complete tomorrow a bill on the former subject. The bill to relieve certain burdens on the American merchant marine and to encourage the American foreign carrying trade has been made a special order for Thursday morning. Special orders are, however, liable to be pushed aside by regular appropriation bills or revenue measures.
The first special order for the week in the Senate is on Tuesday, when the House bill to regulate practice in patent suits will come up. The consideration of the Fitz John Porter bill and of the bill to aid in the establishment and temporary support of the common schools are both made special orders for next Wednesday. The first named bill will encounter strong opposition from General Logan and other Republican Senators, but the prevalent impression is that it will pass. The educational bill will give rise to considerable discussion.
It is possible that one or more special orders will be set aside, giving place temporarily to the Mexican treaty, which will be taken up on Monday, and the consideration of which will continue until a vote is reached.
