MR. LOWRIE

This gentleman having made it matter of accusation against General Jackson, that he should recommend it to the President of the American people, to select his administration from both the great political parties in the country, it may not be amiss to state a fact, which is well known to those who were the representatives in the State Legislature from the city of Philadelphia, at the time of Mr. Lowrie's election to the United States Senate. Isaac Weaver, the then Speaker of the Senate of Pennsylvania, was the candidate of the Democratic party for the Senate of the United States, and had been regarded as the only candidate during that session, until a few days before the election of Senator, which is made by joint vote of both houses. He was not liked by the Federalists in the Legislature; and they proposed to some who were known to be Mr. Lowrie's personal and political friends, that if they would nominate Walter Lowrie for Senator, he should receive the votes of the Federalists, in order to prevent the election of Mr. Weaver.-- This proposition was accepted by Mr. Lowrie's friends, the nomination made by them, and on the day of election, Mr. Lowrie received 87 votes, (the whole number voting being 120, ) and Mr. Weaver the remainder, except one.--Of these 87 votes, there were 33 Federal voters, every one of which Mr. L. received, and which, if given to his opponent, would have secured his election. That he was nominated at the request of the Federalists, and finally successful through their means, is a fact particularly well known to the present representative in Congress from this county, who was then a member of the State Senate.--Nat. Gazette.
