Full Text

Boston, May 30. Last Thursday arrived here Capt. Jones, from Bristol, who brought over several Transports (which we hear are to be sent to Virginia.)

These Transports we are inform'd, had agreed amongst themselves, that as soon as they made the Land, they would murder the Vessel's Company, burn the Vessel, and get ashore with the Boat; but having a Mistrust of one of the Gang, they would not suffer him to go upon Deck, lest he Should discover their hellish Design; the Person of whom they were diffident, us'd to write Copies for a Lad that was on board; and the Day before they made the Land, his Copies being all wrote out, he went down the Hold to this Person to get him more, which he did, and wrote for the Copies the Substance of the Plot design'd, which the Lad at his Desire shew'd to his Master, who, as soon as he read it, put himself and People upon their Guard, and secur'd the Fellows from perpetrating their execrable Design.

Transports aboard Capt. Jones's vessel from Bristol plotted to murder the crew, burn the ship, and escape by boat upon sighting land, but mistrusting one member, they kept him below; he secretly informed the captain via a note written in copybook pages passed through a boy, allowing the crew to secure the plotters and prevent the crime.
