Yesterday arrived at this port, the ship Monticello, Kearney, from Lisbon, which port he left on the 9th of Jan.
Capt. K. informs us that the British army had left Spain, and that their head-quarters were at Coimbra--that the British government were going to support a Portuguese army of 40,000 men, to be commanded by British officers--that no battles had been fought very lately between the Spaniards and French.
Capt. K. further states, that just before he sailed a British packet arrived bringing London papers to the 3d of January, some of which our informant perused, but did not find they contained any thing of importance, excepting the dismissal of Mr. Jackson, by the American government; and Mr. Canning's appointment to be first Lord of the treasury, in the place of lord Mulgrave.
