Full Text

The Speech of Mr. Hoffman, which will be found on our first page, will richly repay perusal.

"The ides of March" were fatal to Caesar. Those of August, September and October will be more fatal to Jackson! His political account is up! The people are not yet ripe for despotism. -New Orleans Argus.

The Tory papers, in their treatment of those Whigs who were formerly counted as Jackson men, affect to consider them deserters. If there are those thus situated who supported Jackson from personal motives, perhaps they may be turned deserters. But it does not follow that because a man once voted for Jackson he is bound to be a Tory now. Many an honest and conscientious man, who has heretofore supported the Jackson party from principle, has found out that he 'was not born to be a Tory.' The veteran democrats of New York and Maine, do not hesitate to denounce the Tory doctrines which are identified with the Jackson cause through the influence of mercenary office holders who have gained a temporary control of public opinion.
