Resources and Enterprize of the South.—

The produce of Madison county, Alabama, in cotton alone, in 1821, was ascertained to be 6,026,627 lbs. making 20,083 bales, of 300 lbs. each (cleaned by 149 gins) at 12 cts. per lb, the average price of that crop worth $75,558. The transportation of this immense bulk of staple commodity is greatly facilitated by the employment of steam boats, the incalculable advantages of which are introduced to every part of our extensive country. At Kanawha, a town commenced in 1818, upwards of 900 miles from the sea-coast, on Sunday the 17th ult. a steam boat, said to be one of the finest on the southern waters, arrived from Mobile with a full cargo of dry goods, groceries, &c. and on the Tuesday following, another arrived, with two barges in tow, loaded with merchandize.
