Well Attended;
Kingdon Speaks
Fifty members and guests of the Williamson Lions club attended the ladies' night program and dinner last evening at the Mountaineer Hotel.
Guest speaker was Ritz Kingdon of Mullens, zone chairman, who spoke on the subject, "The Dangers of Communism."
Mr. Kingdon reviewed the methods through which the Communists work and stated that they are in the minority and always would be in the minority. He pointed out, however, that by working themselves into important government and union positions, they could be a serious menace.
He urged that such persons be publicly exposed and prohibited from holding public office. "If we do this," he said, "we will have nothing to worry about."
President Conley Bevins presided at the meeting and introduced Mrs. Mary Lou Van Camp who reviewed the work accomplished with the eye-testing machine at the Main school building.
Of 310 children examined, she said, 147 were found to be in need of eye examinations by a physician or an oculist.
Past presidents Ersel Slater and Louie C. Linkous were presented pins by Kingdon, who also conducted a zone meeting after the banquet.
June E. Baker of Huntington, led the singing and also entertained the Lions and their guests with several jokes and a recitation.
Guests included Fr. James F. Altmeyer of the Catholic church and District Governor Leonard Hays and Mrs. Hays of Virginia.
