Full Text
The following Extract from a famous Author, will be beneficial to young Gentlemen in the Choice of a WIFE.
YOU cannot (says he) be too cautious in making your Choice of a Wife: For, as it is for Life, a Miscarriage is irretrievable; and a Mistake in chusing may bias the whole Happiness of your Life. Whatever Accomplishments the Person you fix your Choice upon, may have, take Care that good Sense and Good-Nature be two of them. If you marry a Fool, she will disgust you, and a Fury will torment you. Enquire therefore, as fully as you can, her Character, before you fix your Affections, and that not of her Acquaintance of one Sex only, but of both; nor listen to her Relations and Friends only, but to her Rivals and Enemies too, if she has any. Don't marry a reputed Beauty, unless you intend to give up the whole Peace and Happiness of your Life for a Honey moon. There is not one of ten thousand of them that is sufferable, thro' Vanity and a total Emptiness of all that is necessary for making an agreeable Companion to a Man of Sense, a prudent Manager of a Family, and a discreet Mother of Children.
