Lewiston Hopes for
New Federal Building

Lewiston, Jan. 13.-Inclusion of Lewiston in the 140 cities for which Congress has been asked to provide $40,000,000 for federal buildings was the first news received here of a plan to enlarge the present post office building, though it was known that business at the local office had long overtaxed its capacity.

This has been due largely to the parcel post department, a phase of postal business which had not been considered by the government when the Lewiston office was built.

The post office is the only federal building in the city and the plan for its enlargement is understood to provide for an addition big enough to relieve present congestion, also to house several federal offices now maintained elsewhere.

To carry out these plans, Congress has been asked to provide $115,000.

The present post office lot is of ample size to accommodate a duplicate of the old building, and still leave adequate ground space to meet government requirements.
