Full Text

Paris, June 2. The loss of Belleisle, if that should happen, will serve only to animate our court to make new efforts. The King wishes for peace, but he would have an equitable and safe peace. The advantages which the enemy may gain, will not facilitate the negotiation of a peace. All the reports of a suspension of arms are groundless.

The squadron fitting out at Brest will be more formidable than has been imagined: The court has sent orders to add to the men of war fitting out at Rochefort, two ships of 80 guns, one of 70 guns, and two prames, the whole are to be ready by the middle of next month, and M. de Beleanc is to have the chief command.
