The army of the Alps is actually reduced to 12 or 14 battalions. All the others have passed to the army in Italy. The report of an intended expedition from along the coast of Nice and Toulon, has spread an alarm thro' all the little Italian Courts—there is not a prince among them, who does not suppose that it is not directed against himself. Above all, the Court of Rome has roused from its stupor in which it has been sunk for some months. The Pope has begun anew his reviews and military promotion. Orders have been given to put Civittavecchia in a state of defence. The Court of Naples trembles to see a French grenadier give laws to his Sicilian Majesty, even in his own palace. The English, in turn, fear the fate of Corsica. In the midst of these general alarms, with pain we observe the state of Tuscany, whose glory is effaced entirely by the British tyranny. The court of Turin not only trembles for the states of Piedmont, but dreads an invasion of the island of Sardinia.
The seeds of insurrection and discontent, which have existed in the island, since the last movements, have sprung up, and will at this day assist the approach of the French troops.
Things evidently tend to great events in the Mediterranean, and this sea will soon be the theatre of the most decisive actions.
The Swedish Minister arrived here on the evening before last. He will appear in the Convention soon. We expect to-morrow an Envoy from Denmark.
