Full Text

New-York, November 26

Arrived the brig Savannah Packet, Jocelin, 7 days from Savannah.

The French privateer La Vengeance, and the other, name unknown, were still at Savannah.

On the night of the 14th instant, about 60 men belonging to these privateers, collected in the city, armed with knives, and attacked about 90 American seamen; and stabbed the mate of the brig Hetty, of Philadelphia, to the heart, who immediately expired. They also wounded several other American seamen.

While the Savannah Packet was at anchor at Tybee on the 15th instant a schooner called the Malaparte, belonging to a Frenchman, in Savannah, from Charleston with 40 or 50 men, shipped in Charleston for those privateers, ran aground at Cockspur but, by landing the men on the marsh, lightened her so much that she got off without much damage, it blowing a gale at N. E.

The British brig Fire Fly, and a schooner, mounting 12 long nines, are cruising off Tybee to revenge the above privateers; and it is to be hoped they will give a good account of them.
