GUITEAU'S NEW YEAR,
LARGER RECEPTION THAN THE PRESIDENT-THE PRISONER'S TALK ABOUT HIMSELF.
WASHINGTON, Jan. 1.-There was a constant stream of visitors to the jail all day to-day to see Guiteau. Nearly all who came were admitted. Guiteau was in the best of spirits. He was neatly dressed, wearing a white shirt for the first time on a Sunday. He talked with each caller. There were at least one hundred who saw him.
Talking to a lady he said: "I see by the city papers that there are a great many who will have receptions to-morrow. I think I have had more pleasant calls than many will have to-morrow, and if I was in a place where the public could pass in I would have more calls to-morrow than even President Arthur."
In speaking to another visitor he said: "It amuses me to hear the different ways people have of pronouncing my name. You call it Gartoo. Corkhill calls me Mr. Geetow. The most of them say Guitaw. Strange but few of them pronounce it as they should-Getto, I want to get this thing right, and I think I'll refer to it again in court on Tuesday."
