Full Text

From the Harrisburg Reporter, April 10.

The Message of the Governor, inserted in our summary of Legislative proceedings, reassembles the Legislature, after it had agreed to adjourn finally. Each House had informed him in the usual manner, by a joint committee, that they were about to separate, and were waiting any further communication he might have to make. It will be seen by the Message, that no provision had then been made to pay debts and interest, and to continue the public improvements. In such condition of things, the Legislature could not be permitted to remain separate long.

The interests of the Commonwealth—her credit and her honor, as well as prosperity—require legislation: The Governor, therefore believed it to be his duty to keep the Legislature in session.
