A NAVAL FUNERAL
Interment of the Japanese Midshipman Hara.

The funeral of Midshipman Hara, who was drowned in the harbor yesterday morning, took place at 9:30 o'clock this morning, and was accorded due naval honors. Officers and detachments of bluejackets from the U. S. warships Philadelphia and Adams and H. B. M. S. Champion attended the obsequies. The funeral column was headed by the U. S. flagship band, followed by musketeers from the Japanese cruiser Takachiho. Then came the coffin, draped in mourning, on a gun carriage. Following came bluejackets from the Takachiho, and its commander, men from the Champion, Philadelphia and Adams. The column ended with carriages containing officers of the four warships in port. The interment took place in the Makiki cemetery. The streets were crowded with people who witnessed the sorrowful cortege with much sympathy. The flags on all the warships were flying at half-mast to-day out of respect to the deceased midshipman.
