I am an advocate of the Open Mind. The mind which realizes that TRUTH is eternal and universal. TRUTH is not confined to this earth, to this solar system, but permeates all Creation. No man knows Truth. No man has ever known the ultimate in Truth. It is not yet revealed, but the Open Mind can receive revelations by the keeping of the mind open, observing, experiencing, proving all things, holding fast to that which is good. I feel pity for the folks who know all there is to know. They will not listen to anything they don't already know.
There are men, and groups of men who are still trying to run the earth along their own selfish lines, evidently not realizing that the earth belongs to its Creator, and no man, no group of men, can even delay His program, which is the creation of a perfect Universe. The joy of knowing that everything is under control, that everything is going on to perfection, that you have the privilege of being an instrument of the Creator in the perpetual program, will bring you the joy in living which it has brought to me, I believe.
I recommend trying to realize that we are instruments, naturally animal, with the option of making a contribution which will live through eternity, keeping the mind open to learn more about His program, counting your blessings, find fault with yourself instead of with the other fellow, and see what happens.
Tomorrow, Sunday, February 27, 5:30 p.m. 558 Mass. Ave. the unusual monthly program of the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor Musical Association will be performed. Emphasizing music by American composers will be Marion McFarlane, Lillian Harrison, Joseph Maddox, Harold Evans, me, and maybe some others. Dr. Walter O. Taylor will be the speaker and President Ella Martin will hold the reins, (I mean she will be at the wheel). See you there.
Preparations are going apace for the perpetuation of the memory of the Boston Massacre Martyrs Crispus Attucks and his four fellow patriots. As usual we are planning the pilgrimage, starting at the Spot, where the massacre occurred, thence to the repository of the bodies in the Old Granary Burying Ground, and to the Monument on the Common. More will be said about the program as it assumes definite shape; but this is a reminder to whet up your Patriotism, and prepare to make
such a demonstration of gratitude to the Creator for such lives as those we are honoring, that it will inspire us anew to service in His program, Peace, Good Will, Love - the roots from which democracy springs.
Just heard from Harold DeMund that Mrs. Pearl Landers, who takes entertainers around to shut-ins, and Alex. Thomas, undertaker, a Roman Catholic, joined up to overcome some difficulties to give a conventional and dignified burial to one who had done so much for the entertainers as the late Harold Durphy. The Lord is mindful of His own.
To advertisers who insert once only, sometimes just one day before performance, do you think it gives possible fans a good notice for preparation to attend? Most persons plan their activities at least one week ahead. I learned early in my professional work that printers' ink ALWAYS more than pays for itself. Let folks know what you are doing in time for them to arrange to attend.
