Discarded Clothing, Furniture
Housewives in Dayton, Oakwood and throughout Montgomery county this week are being asked to participate in the observance of Goodwill Week during which 4000 boys and girls, representing the Boy Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and Girl Scouts, all under the sponsorship of the Dayton Junior Association of Commerce, are seeking contributions of discarded materials for the Goodwill Industries.
Robert E. Wolf, chairman of the project, Junior Association of Commerce, will be in charge of the campaign.
Each housewife having any discarded materials which may be given to the Goodwill Industries will be asked to sign a card by a boy or girl, indicating what type of materials are available and when she wishes to have a Goodwill truck call for her contribution.
Under no circumstances will a boy or girl participate in the actual collection of discarded materials. Their only job will be to obtain signed cards from housewives.
Wolf pointed out that old clothing, shoes, broken furniture, household articles or materials of metal are acceptable. He likewise indicated that 6000 truckloads will mean employment for 200 handicapped persons for one year.
All materials contributed will be made usable and sold through the Goodwill stores, thereby obtaining additional funds to be used for employing handicapped persons unable to obtain work elsewhere. At present, 125 handicapped persons are now being given employment at the Goodwill Industries, 201 West Fifth street.
Goodwill week, which started last Saturday, will close this Saturday. Each Scout troop or Camp Fire group showing an average of three effective calls per member will receive a framed certificate of merit. The high group will be awarded a hand-drawn special citation for achievement and members of the highest groups will get personal certificates.
