Suakim, Feb. 24.—Osman Digna is reported to be at Teb with a large force and eager for a fight.
London, Feb. 24.—Col. Burnaby, the correspondent of The Post, telegraphs from Suakim that three courses are open to the English. First, the recapture of Tokar and the chastising of the enemy if encountered; meanwhile to recover and decently inter the remains of Capt. Moncrieff, consul at Suakim. Secondly, to try and attack Osman Digna, the leader of the rebels, and disperse his forces. Thirdly, to ship troops to Massowah, and from there attempt the relief of Kassala, and, after doing this, march to Khartoum. He advises the use of the Indian troops stationed at Aden.
Suakim, Feb. 24.—Later reports received here in regard to the surrender of Tokar speak of cowardice on the part of the officers, whom Osman bribed in favor of surrender. It is known that the privates bitterly opposed surrender, but all the officers favored it, and overruled the objections of their subordinates. After the surrender Osman Digna gave a number of presents to the officers, it was stated by him, as a mark of respect for their bravery in holding out so long; but the soldiers think they were given in part payment for the capitulation of Tokar, and wore the insignia of cowardice instead of bravery. The rebels continue to treat their prisoners kindly. It is said they are endeavoring to enlist them in their cause. With the exception of the bombardment, which was constantly kept up, and which did very little damage, Tokar was secure, as a majority of the rebels had been drawn away from the vicinity of Tokar, being massed at Teb, where they were fortifying and awaiting the advance of Gen. Graham.
