Defense Group Meets
The Mayor's Advisory Committee on the Greenbelt Disaster Plan met for two hours August 29th with Director of Civil Defense George Panagoulis to discuss elements of the separate but related reports which the two groups expect to make to Council on September 11.
The Committee chairman, Major Lyman Woodman, reported that the advisory group's statement will include comment on some of Chief Panagoulis' findings and recommendations, and will provide some supplementary data which it developed independently.
The committee and the local director have already agreed on some desirable features of a City Disaster Plan. "Mr. Panagoulis has acquired a lot of information of value in disaster planning," reports Major Woodman, "and he is relating it to state requirements and inter-community mutual-aid programs. Our committee was pleased to find that he has already covered much of the ground which we had contemplated working on. We are trying to coordinate and avoid any overlapping of our efforts. What we will together turn over to the Council should provide a useful guide for actions to be taken by whosoever is designated by the mayor (and approved of by the governor) to be the permanent civil defense head."
